FMD Continues to Spread in Brazil

The Brazilian government has declared 41 municipalities to be at risk for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD). This most recent outbreak was first detected in October in the Mato Grosso do Sul state.
Sales and exports of meat and meat products from these municipalities, located in the states of Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul, have been banned. The outbreak led 47 countries to ban the import of Brazilian meat resulting in a 23% decline in exports in the month of October.
