FMD Diagnosed in Russia

Moscow's Ministry of Agriculture and Food has reported to the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) an outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in two districts bordering the People's Republic of China.
The outbreak, which began on December 11th and involves bovines in the districts of Mikhailovsky and Viazemsky, was officially confirmed on December 19th at the OIE regional Reference Laboratory for FMD at the Federal Centre for Animal Health in Vladimir. The virus has been identified as serotype Asia 1.
To date, four clinical cases have been observed in a herd of four susceptible animals. All 4 have been destroyed and additional control measures have been implemented including movement controls, screening, zoning, vaccination and disinfection of infected premises.
