Public Comment Open for Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine Ethics Amendment
December 8, 2021 —
ARC 6058C is an amended notice of intended action from the Board of Veterinary Medicine (IBVM) addressing the principles of veterinary medical ethics. [Source: IVMA 8 December 2021]
As per the consensus of the IVMA leadership, the IVMA has provided a formal letter of support but you may, as an individual, provide comments to the IBVM also.
This proposed rule has been a project which the Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine has sought the IVMA and our legal counsel's input since April of 2020.
The changes include:
- Revision of a few of the ethics rules so that they are more consistent with the language that is contained in Iowa Code chapter 169 and the Board's rules for discipline;
- Addition of client and client's premises to the prohibition on publicizing photographs of patients without permission; and
- Reorganization of some of the more subjective ethics principles into a new subrule, which clarifies that they are recommended practices rather than mandatory practices.
The deadline for public comments is 4:30 pm on December 31 and may be sent to:
