PED Update – July 3, 2013

• Visit the AASV PED webpage for the latest updates on case distribution. NC is reporting two cases in the state. The latest update is for the week of 6/24/13.
• The National Pork Board sent out an email update to 30,000 producers.
• One of the most important things you can do when submitting diagnostic samples is to include the Premises Identification Number (PIN) on the diagnostic submission form. Also include a statement allowing the laboratory to provide the information in a confidential and secure manner for further disease analysis. The National Pork Board has fact sheets available covering the use of PIN tags. The fact sheets are available free of charge at the Pork Store or by emailing Dr. Patrick Webb (pwebb@pork.org).
• Mexico imposed restrictions on live swine imports from the United States due to concerns over PED. USDA is negotiating with Mexican authorities to lift the restrictions.
