Circovirus Vaccine for Piglets Authorized in the EU

The European Union's Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use (CVMP) has granted approval of the first circovirus vaccine for piglets in the EU.

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica's Ingelvac CircoFLEX was approved for a marketing authorization by the committee on December 12, 2007 clearing the way for final approval by the European Commission. CircoFLEX would be the first vaccine to receive approval for piglet administration to address porcine circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) associated diseases in Europe. The vaccine is intended for the active immunization of pigs over the age of 2 weeks.

The CVMP, on the basis of quality, safety and efficacy data submitted, considers that there is a favorable benefit to risk balance for Ingelvac CircoFLEX and therefore recommends the granting of the marketing authorization. The Commission's decision is expected within 90 days.
