Pig Journal Adopts new Format

Volume 60 of the The Pig Journal is now available and has become a fully refereed publication.

It is becoming an increasingly competitive market, but the need for a fully refereed pig journal, to attract good quality research papers from around the world, is becoming very clear. We have been fortunate in the past to derive much of our material from our own meetings, but as the UK industry declines, we see other countries leading the way forward on many aspects of pig disease and production and we need to attract these papers.

We are fortunate to have two review papers of the Irish pig industry dealing with production and pollution controls, where they lead in Europe. There are some significant research papers, including the efficacy of disinfectants against key pig pathogens, especially Salmonella Typhimurium, absorption of antibiotics across and epithelial transport, advances in circovirus (PCV2) control, susceptibility of colistin to Escherichia coli, and gilt rearing for life-long performance. Clinical practice looks at Aujeszky's disease and eradication, control of respiratory diseases, and PCV2 vaccination experiences in the USA.
