Position Announcement: Adjunct Instructor, Swine Food Supply Veterinary Services

Iowa State University seeks to fill a ¾ time Adjunct Instructor position in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) - Vacancy ID #070987. The commitments will include professional practice in the TriOak Foods production system, research to support health management in that system and meet Masters or PhD thesis requirements, and teaching professional veterinary students. The successful candidate will have responsibilities in the Food Supply Veterinary Services (FSVS) swine section of VDPAM. The focus of the position will be working with the swine section and TriOak Foods to better define the diagnosis, intervention, and outcome of interventions associated with disease processes in modern food animal production systems.

Responsibilities in FSVS will be focused on diagnostic medicine, coordinating communication between the swine section and TriOak Foods and developing and implementing health management for the production system. This process will involve critical appraisal of the literature in areas relevant to customer needs. The person in this position will also use data and outcomes to influence the content of curriculum delivered by VDPAM faculty to veterinary students and influence the direction of department research. Teaching responsibilities will include clinical training in swine medicine in the VDPAM 4th year curriculum. The person in this position will also take graduate courses to pursue a thesis based MS or PhD in Veterinary Preventive Medicine or a related field.

Appointment Conditions: Non-tenure track, 12-month, 3/4 time

Proposed Start Date: December 15, 2007

Required Qualifications: Must possess a DVM from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine by start date and must have or obtain licensure in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. Must have experience in health and production management in modern swine production systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with integration of diagnostic medicine, statistics, database management and welfare management in modern swine production systems.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications. Includes tuition.
