Johanns Resigns to Pursue Other Opportunities to Serve

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns has announced his resignation effective immediately.
Johanns served as Secretary of Agriculture for almost 3 years following the resignation of Ann Veneman in 2004. He grew up on a 160 acre dairy farm in Iowa and later served as the governor of Nebraska for six years. He is expected to run for the U.S. Senate seat vacated at the end of next year by Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb.
Deputy Agriculture Secretary Charles Conner will assume the duties as acting secretary.
