PRV Quarantines Lifted on 31 Wisconsin Farms

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection removed the quarantine restrictions on 27 farms within a five mile radius surrounding the first of two Clark County herds testing positive for Pseudorabies (PRV) in April. The quarantines were also lifted on four additional herds that had contact with the Greenwood-area herd.

No other positive herds have been detected during the surveillance testing conducted around the initial infected herd. Surveillance testing will be conducted this week on 33 farms within a five mile radius of the second positive herd located in Loyal, WI.

The 300 animals in the Greenwood herd and 20 in the Loyal herd were euthanized Friday at the two farms and sent to rendering. Federal officials have classified the two infected herds as "transitional", meaning the herds have the potential for contact with wild or feral pigs. The presence of feral pigs in Clark County has not been confirmed however.
