Position Announcement: Pre-harvest Food Safety Epidemiology - PhD Graduate Research Assistantship

We are inviting applications for a PhD Graduate Research Assistant in Food Safety Epidemiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the National Food Safety and Toxicology Center, Michigan State University. The successful applicant will have primary responsibilities for conducting on-farm epidemiologic studies of Salmonella in swine--specifically the impact of the thermal environment on Salmonella shedding. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in epidemiologic research, infectious disease epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, agricultural engineering, pre-harvest food safety and microbiology. The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary team that consists of epidemiologists, veterinarians, agricultural engineers, microbiologists, and swine producers. Other opportunities for professional development are available based on specific student interests and career goals.

A DVM (or equivalent) degree is required. A Master's degree and/or clinical practice experience is desirable.

Applicants should have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to organize and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full tuition support is included. The position also provides health insurance and other university benefits.
