NPPC Seeks Veterinary Participation

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is seeking to partner with swine veterinarians interested in participating with producers to educate legislators about issues of concern to the swine industry.

Issues such as the 2007 Farm Bill, animal welfare, antibiotic usage, access to export markets and others will likely impact the swine industry and swine veterinary profession during this and upcoming congressional sessions. Many of these issues are highly technical in nature and legislative staffs are requesting information from those constituents most likely to be impacted and professionals that understand the complexity of the issues.

NPPC represents the interests of swine farmers and pork producers on Capitol Hill and is actively advocating for favorable legislation. One key aspect of this advocacy effort is face to face meetings with members of congress and their staffers. To aid with these meetings, NPPC is looking for 25 - 50 swine veterinarians to join pork producers and allied industry representatives from across the country to spend two days in Washington, DC, meeting with members of Congress and their staff on critical policy issues over the next 15 weeks. The goal is to have 2 - 5 veterinarians in Washington each week between now and the end of July when Congress adjourns for its August recess.

Please note that you would be advocating on behalf of the swine industry with NPPC and not AASV. The association is working with NPPC to identify veterinarians that would be willing to offer their time and expertise to help shape public policy. If you would be interested in participating in this effort, please contact AASV by email at aasv@aasv.org and we'll put you in touch with folks coordinating this effort.
