Lawmakers Vow to Review Food Safety Process
December 12, 2006 —
U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D., Conn.), chair of the House Agriculture Committee when congress convenes in January, vowed to focus early hearings on food safety.
DeLauro indicated that the food safety system "appears to have broken down" referring to recent E. coli outbreaks associated with spinach and green onions. Proposed reform of the system may reinvigorate legislation previously introduced placing responsibility for food safety under one agency.
