Australian order permits continued import of pork
June 15, 2005 — Feedstuffs Newspaper
The U.S. pork sector received some good news in an order issued by an Australian federal judge that will allow Australian pork importers to continue importing pork from the U.S. and other countries with postweaning multi-systemic wasting syndrome (PWMS) during an appeal of his earlier order that such imports should be halted, according to Nick Giordano, international trade counsel for the National Pork Producers Council. The order permits the U.S. to continue developing the Australian market, which only opened to the U.S. industry late last year and is on track to become the seventh-best export market for the industry, he told Feedstuffs.
