Farm Sanctuary v. Corcpork suit dismissed

California Superior Court Judge Joanne O'Donnell dismissed a lawsuit Tuesday against Corcpork Inc., supplier for Clougherty Packing Company's Farmer John processing plant. In the suit, animal rights group Farm Sanctuary accused Corcpork of violating the state's animal cruelty law, seeking to prevent the use of individual stalls to house pregnant sows. Judge O'Donnell granted Corcpork's motion for summary judgement, ruling that the state's recently approved Proposition 64 applied to the case. Proposition 64 blocks private parties from suing businesses unless the plaintiff demonstrates "an injury in fact and loss of money or property." Farm Sanctuary is expected to appeal the decision.
