Position Announcement: Food Animal Medicine Teaching Faculty

The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine (UA-CVM), located in Oro Valley, Arizona, invites applications for a faculty position with a primary focus on teaching food animal medicine, surgery, and herd health management. We are seeking a veterinarian with clinical experience with food animal species and herd health management to assist with the design and facilitation of active learning classroom sessions and clinical skills labs for first and second-year pre-clinical veterinary students. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate as a team member in the design, development, and delivery of the food animal and herd health pre-clinical veterinary medical doctorate curriculum
  • Deliver curriculum content to veterinary students within the CVM vision of inclusive, evidence-based Team-Based Learning and Peer Instruction pedagogy, in which students take substantial ownership of their learning, and student classroom time is focused on the collaborative application of content (as opposed to a focus on delivery of content).
  • Participate in the development of elective courses for students with an interest in food animal species and assist in identifying and coordinating supporting expertise for the food animal electives.
  • Provide reasonable out-of-classroom availability to diverse cohorts of veterinary students for office hours and scheduled meetings to assist students with learning.
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and professional development aimed at the lifelong process of improving inclusive teaching and learning skills.
  • Contribute to the clinical year training by leveraging experience with food animal species to support the development and implementation of opportunities for clinical training in food animal species.
  • Engage in the CVM collegial community, the university community, and the larger global academic community through participation in shared governance, advisory committees, and academic/professional society meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • DVM degree (or international equivalent).
  • At least two years of clinical experience in food animal practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least four years of clinical experience with a variety of food animal species and herd health.
  • Prior experience in teaching and learning using active learning techniques to a diverse range of students.
  • Board certification or board eligible in a relevant specialty such as ABVP, ACVPM, ACVIM.
