1918 Pandemic Flu
April 18, 2018 —
The first mentions of the 1918 influenza pandemic in public health reports in the United States took place in April 1918. The pandemic devastated entire communities and took an estimated 675,000 American lives and more than 50 million lives worldwide making it the most severe pandemic in recent history. 100 hundred years later, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looks back on the 1918 influenza pandemic. In addition, Dr. Amy Vincent, Research Veterinary Medical Officer at the National Animal Disease Center, recently gave a presentation on the impact of the 1918 pandemic on U.S. swine. She graciously allowed AASV to post a pdf of The Mother of all Pandemics on our website. It's well-worth a look.
