Position Announcement: Staff Veterinarian, Seaboard Foods

Seaboard Foods of Iowa is seeking a staff veterinarian to join the production management team for farm operations located in the state of Iowa. The position offers a unique opportunity for veterinarians to participate in all areas of production, based on their experience and abilities. The position will report to the Operations and Health Assurance Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary college. Previous experience in swine production medicine is preferred.
  • The successful candidate is required to maintain PQA Plus advisor status, USDA Accreditation and veterinary licensure in the state(s) of practice.
  • The candidate must possess superior listening and interpersonal skills and be self-motivated, hard-working, and a passionate team member focused on producing pork in a cost-competitive environment.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MS Word, Excel, Word Documents, and PowerPoint) is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Help create, supervise and coordinate the herd health programs to enhance throughput.
  • Monitor and implement procedures that will enhance biosecurity to ensure a high health status herd.
  • Provide expertise in the diagnosis and troubleshooting of production and health issues in all phases of production.
  • Assist in the implementation of production education programs for employees.
  • Remain current in all areas of responsibility by establishing a network of industry and academic contacts, studying industry literature, and attending scientific/industry meetings.
  • This position is based in Ames, Iowa with some travel (up to one week per month to other production facilities as needed).
  • Please note that the successful candidate will be required to do an initial stay in our Oklahoma facilities to be familiar with our Seaboard Foods’ operations. The length of stay will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
