Position Announcement: Assistant/Associate Professor of Virology with an Emphasis on Food Animal Diseases

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track position (12 month appointment) in the field of Virology with an emphasis on diseases important to food animal species. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor, depending on the selected candidate’s research achievements and level of extramural funding.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD in a related field. In addition, a DVM or equivalent degree and/or diplomat status in a relevant specialty board is preferred.

The goals of this position are to expand CVM’s basic and applied virology research program, while supporting producers, veterinarians and the North Carolina Production Animal Industries. In collaboration with other faculty and stakeholders, the candidate will explore the pathogenesis and control and viral diseases of importance to commercial industry. In addition, the candidate is expected to support diagnostic services by providing assistance in the development and implementation of diagnostic tests related to industry needs in the area of the applicant’s expertise. An expansion of outreach and extension work with stakeholders is expected. The appointment will include teaching DVM students and training House Officers and graduate students. The selected individual will be expected to liaise with the NC Department of Agriculture and the NC Production Animal Industries.

Other responsibilities include serving on the Teaching Animal Unit (TAU) steering committee, assuming a leadership role at TAU, liaising with the NCDA Veterinary Division and the NCSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and assisting in the development or expansion of a resident program.
