Position Announcement: Technical Consultant - Food Animal Health

Elanco Animal Health seeks a veterinarian with swine industry experience to fill a Technical Consultant position based in the Midwest.

The Technical Consultant will implement analytical platforms for US swine customers that deliver value beyond product through data analytics, product assurance, and non-traditional innovation. She or he will work closely with customers, Elanco account teams, external consultants, Elanco Knowledge Solutions (EKS) and Elanco marketing to insure that these value-added products and services:

  • address the goals and needs of the customer and the Elanco account team
  • are aligned with Elanco’s business objectives
  • are implemented with quality, speed, and efficiency to targeted customers
  • deliver quantifiable value to key swine production companies

Basic Qualifications

  • DVM degree
  • 2-3 years of swine industry experience

Additional Information

  • 60% of time interacting with key accounts to understand problems, capture the required data, conduct the appropriate analysis, and report recommended solutions. Working in cooperation with the Elanco account team to deliver value to the customer.
  • 30% of time focused on developing solutions, tools and software brought forward through the EKS team and implementing with customers.
  • 10% of time spent on post approval studies to demonstrate product value.
  • Some (25%) travel required
  • Preferred location is midwest US.
  • US focus, OUS piece will be transferring key learnings in US to other account teams.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Identify ways to improve the performance and profitability of customer’s swine production company with both products and services.
  • Identify and align with the business on opportunities to bring value beyond product to key customers.
  • Coordinate the identification, development, and delivery of customer-focused, analytic solutions through direct interaction and consultation with Elanco account teams and key U.S. swine customers.
  • Increase the quantity and quality of data that can be turned into action and a competitive advantage for key swine customers and Elanco.
  • Turn large amounts of complex data into informative concise reports (written and oral) which can be used to communicate (words and actions) key learnings and action items to swine producers in a simple-to-understand manner.
  • Use diagnostics to support a solution or product use for customers.
  • Build capabilities in data analysis and Full Value Pig consultation within Elanco’s global swine account teams with a direct link to the U.S. swine business.
  • Responsible for working with post-approval studies (PAS) of existing products and new product launches for the US Region in conjunction with the Technical, Account and Marketing Teams.

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability with a consultative mindset.
  • Data driven, analytical approach to decision-making with extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Should have excellent “people skills”, be a good communicator (both written and oral), and be a good team member. Effective presenter of technical material in both written and oral forums is required. Coaching ability is highly desirable.
  • Listens well and has the ability to command attention, build trust, and ability to communicate and influence others at both the barn and boardroom levels.
  • Ability to translate strategic opportunities into operational plans.
  • Project management experience with ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Self-management skills with a focus on results for timely, accurate execution.
  • Interpersonal/teamwork skills for effective interactions and communications even when working remotely with cross-functional teams.
  • Data management, analysis, and reporting experience and familiarity with the tools-of-the-trade and nomenclature.
  • Working knowledge of JMP, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Direct experience working with U.S. swine producers and packers.
  • Established network of peers in the swine industry.
  • Understanding of the animal health industry.
  • Experience with Elanco Animal Health swine portfolio of products.
  • Understanding of the Elanco Full Value Pig platform and metrics.
  • English required, second language preferred
