Position Announcement: Extension Program Specialist-Swine and Field Specialist-Swine

The Department of Extension to Agriculture and Natural Resources with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Iowa Pork Industry Center at Iowa State University seeks qualified candidates for TWO positions: Extension Program Specialist II – Swine and Field Specialist II/III – Swine. Both positions are 12-month, full-time appointments ending June 30, 2017, with possibility of renewal based on funding. Applications should be submitted no later than May 31, 2016; the positions are open until filled.

Extension Program Specialist II - Swine: Responsibilities of this position will include planning and conducting seminars, workshops, training sessions and industry meetings. Other responsibilities include the development and dissemination of educational materials relevant to the pork industry through publications, newsletters and websites. Participation in the partnering with faculty and extension staff in developing and delivering information to the pork industry will be expected, in addition to development of applications to secure grant funding to support such efforts. The successful candidate will possess the ability to develop a plan of work based on client needs identification; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with individuals and groups; and ability to establish partnerships with leaders in Iowa Pork Industry. Field Specialist II/III - Swine: The Field Specialist will participate, facilitate and lead specific extension and outreach efforts to positively impact the Iowa swine industry. This position will require leadership and subject matter support at the regional, state, multi-state, national, and/or international level for networks and coalitions which lead to funding and/or programming opportunities. The incumbent will be expected to have a strong understanding of the swine industry and work closely with the Iowa Pork Industry Center to strengthen the center’s efforts to enable a competitive advantage for Iowa pork producers by developing and promoting efficient pork production practices and technologies in Iowa to maintain and strengthen Iowa’s global pork industry leadership. This position will participate in grant and contract opportunities and be active in revenue generation. Responsibilities of this position will also include entrepreneurial, collaborative, service and administrative functions with ISU. Programmatic leadership is provided through the Agriculture and Natural Resources Swine Team. Subject matter leadership is provided through the Iowa Pork Industry Center and the Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
