Opportunity for Service: AASV District Director

Have you ever considered serving the AASV in a governing role? The current AASV District #7 Director, Dr. Scanlon Daniels, was recently elected to the office of AASV Vice President, and is no longer able to represent the district on the AASV Board of Directors. Hence, nominations are currently being sought for the office of Director of District #7, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Nomination cards have been mailed to all eligible voters in District 7. Potential candidates must be Active AASV members residing in the district (Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote). Nominations must be returned by mail to arrive in the AASV office by May 16. The two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.

The newly elected director will serve a three-year term of office that will begin upon election and continue through the spring 2019 board meeting.

The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV. The Board of Directors meets twice annually (typically March and October) to set policies and conduct association business. The AASV reimburses travel expenses to attend the board meetings. Occasionally, the board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions.
