Position Announcement: Director, Health & Animal Care

The Maschhoffs, the largest family-owned hog production network in North America, is currently looking for a Director, Health & Animal Care based out of our office in Carlyle, Illinois.

Job Overview

This role provides direct leadership to a team of Animal Care professionals while developing technical recommendations for regional health management programs. They would also share responsibility for protecting the integrity of the supply chain, and specifically, will champion food safety, regulatory and customer compliance policies. They will provide leadership in training and developing company personnel to support knowledge based health and animal care, innovation to health and animal care practices, and stewardship for company resources.

Typical duties of a Director, Health & Animal Care include:

  • Administrate health and animal care training, regulatory and certification programs while ensuring best management practices are consistent with all applicable industry, governmental and customer standards
  • Oversee execution and continuous improvement of the Animal Welfare Response Program for internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop a science-based research program in coordination with the Company’s research and innovation strategy focused on pig health to improve company profitability
  • Provide strategic input into development of health and animal care information systems that deliver analysis and reporting
  • Maintain a valid veterinary client patient relationship providing technical support to regional disease management plans to include root cause analysis, countermeasure development, and results monitoring
  • Responsible for strategies that strengthen as well as leverage relationships with pharmaceutical partners to ensure cost competitiveness and optimizing technical services support
  • Accountable for development and management of departmental annual operating budgets
  • Provide direct leadership to the Animal Care team through strong communication, active goal setting, and routine coaching of management behaviors, consistent with company core values
  • Support the hiring, staffing, development, and onboarding of veterinary and animal care professionals

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Experience: Minimum of 5 years previous swine experience. A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Illinois, and the future acquisition of licensure in additional states in which the company conducts business are also requirements for this position.
