NPIF Interns Selected

The AASV Student Recruitment Committee reviewed 44 applications for the 2016 National Pork Industry Foundation (NPIF) Internship Program administered by the AASV Foundation. The NPIF has provided funding for six veterinary students to gain experience in the swine industry through a summer internship with a swine practitioner. The NPIF stipends are intended for any 1st or 2nd year veterinary student, regardless of any previous swine experiences.

Now in its eighth year, the program continues to generate strong interest. The committee focused on applicants with a strong desire but limited opportunity to gain experience in swine medicine. Dr Chase Stahl, NPIF Internship Selection Committee chair, commented that “the selection committee was elated at the quality of applicants and the continued interest in the program.”

The six students selected for the 2016 program are:

Maxwell Beal, Kansas State University
Annette Califano, Tufts University
Jessica Collins, Oklahoma State University
Pablo Jarrin Yepez, University of Tennessee
Kayla McCrone, Midwestern University
Emily Vermillion, University of Georgia

Funding is currently pending, but the Foundation hopes to continue the NPIF Internship Program again next year. If you are a current 1st year student, please check back and apply again next fall. In addition, AASV encourages all student members to explore the many opportunities and other available internships at http://www.aasv.org/students.
