Position Announcement: Graduate Student - Veterinary Pathology

We are seeking applicants for a two-year, Master of Science degree program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. The position will be co-supervised by Drs. Susan Detmer (Department Veterinary Pathology) and John Harding (Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences) and will be located at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

Duties:

The successful candidate will be involved in a research project investigating pathological mechanisms associated with the reproductive form of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS). He/she will primarily focus on the characterization of gross and histopathological lesions, and will develop technical and academic skill sets related to animal models, pathology, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and data analyses.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a degree in veterinary medicine (DVM or equivalent) and an interest in veterinary pathology related to swine diseases. The applicant should have a strong academic background and will be expected to apply for scholarship funding if selected for the position. Past training or experience related to the swine industry and/or animal research would be preferred but is not required. The candidate must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
