Position Announcement: Faculty Member in Swine Health and Production

The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Population Medicine announces a career opportunity for a non-tenure track faculty position in Swine Health and Production. The College seeks a highly motivated individual with the ability to build and lead education programs that contribute to advancing swine health and production in the DVM and post-DVM curriculum. The faculty member in this position will also provide outreach to producers and veterinarians on current health and production issues facing the U.S and global swine industry, and will have leverage to establish an independent or collaborative research program. The individual will work in collaboration with other faculty and industry partners to address health and production areas of relevance to the U.S pork industry. Appointments will be at the rank of assistant or associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and University policies.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent foreign degree, have a broad knowledge of pork production systems management and a strong commitment to the pork industry. The candidate must also be an excellent communicator, with some experience and passion in education and outreach.

Preferred (not required):

An advanced graduate degree, MBA, MS or PhD, and the ability to obtain veterinary licensure are preferred. Candidates with scientific research knowledge relevant to production and health management, and a demonstrated collaborative approach to problem solving are desired. Interest in e-learning and fostering technology enhanced learning experiences are also desired.

Duties:

This position is 75% education and outreach. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, developing and leading education and outreach programs for DVM and post-DVM students, as well as producers, veterinarians and other industry professionals. These programs will include traditional classroom teaching, as well as online and hybrid educational models. Opportunities for research in the area of swine health and disease will be available.

Salary/Rank:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
