AASV Announces Veterinary Student Poster Competition Awardees

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) provided an opportunity for fifteen veterinary students to compete for awards in the Veterinary Student Poster Competition at the association’s 46th Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. Newport Laboratories sponsored the competition, offering awards totaling $4000.

Based on scores received in the original judging of abstracts submitted for the AASV Student Seminar, the top fifteen abstracts not selected for oral presentation at the Annual Meeting are eligible to compete in the poster competition.

Newport Laboratories announced the following awards during the AASV Luncheon on March 2nd:

  • $500 Award – Donna Drebes, University of Minnesota – Top student poster entitled “The effect of translactational antibodies on preweaning mortality in a porcine epidemic diarrhea virus exposed herd.”
  • $400 awards:

    • Joseph Yaros, Cornell University
  • $300 awards:
    • Bernadetta Bernatowicz, University of Pennsylvania
    • Dan Breuer, Iowa State University
    • Joel Sparks, Iowa State University
  • $200 awards:

    • Taylor Engle, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine
    • Danielle Evenson, Iowa State University
    • Daniel Gascho, Purdue University
    • Cassy Griebel, University of Minnesota

    In addition to the poster competition awards, each student poster participant received a $250 travel stipend from Zoetis and the AASV.
