Location: This position will be located in Elk River, Minnesota or Velddriel, The Netherlands.

Cargill Animal Nutrition (CAN) provides customized animal productivity solutions to commercial producers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Rather than focusing on standardized nutrition products, we create targeted solutions based upon customer circumstances. Our research-proven management and nutrition technologies suit the specific needs of our diverse array of customers. The Swine Research Scientist will support the delivery of innovative research to maintain CAN as the industry leader in the swine space. The Research Scientist must have a clear understanding of the animal nutrition industry as well as an ability to execute projects that generate value for our customers.

The Research Scientist must be able to work independently and in teams as a key contributor. This position works closely with others on the technology teams to ensure that we define and execute on research that is valuable to our business and customers. The candidate should possess the desire and ability to successfully work with people from different cultures, backgrounds and businesses. This skill will facilitate the understanding of business and customer needs and to help foster an environment in which people learn more than they are taught. The Research Scientist will have good personal communication skills that allow them to be effective in communicating value. This requires an understanding of the final end product user.

The Research Scientist will need to have a strong desire and ability to effectively develop and deploy animal research that will be used to provide customer solutions on a timely basis. Keep abreast of technology and business practices to allow us to lead the industry in technology application. Typical approaches include immersion in scientific literature on selected topics, monitoring of new scientific literature and attendance at professional meetings and conferences.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • 60% Coordinate research activities focused on delivery of value to areas defined by our global swine business. This includes managing research in the swine units at the Cargill Animal Nutrition Innovation Centers in Velddriel, the Netherlands and Elk River, MN.
  • 15% Work with colleagues to develop or enhance concept models to be used to drive our research
  • 10% Work with lab teams to develop or enhance the accuracy of nutrient measures important to swine
  • 10% Communicate research results that deliver value to our business
  • 5% Lead safety and engagement in activities both within and outside of Cargill Animal Nutrition

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an area of Nutritional Sciences with research focus on Swine Nutrition
  • Evidence of ability to communicate across diverse ranges of scientific background and cultures
  • Proven research background with animals
  • Evidence of ability to champion and work within a high safety culture
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening)
  • Ability to work in a team environment both receiving and delivering ideas that create value
  • Ability to describe key learning’s within cross species concept and/or mathematical models

Preferred

  • Experience in nutritional research
  • Evidence of ability to scientifically extrapolate across species and use in vitro data to develop more efficient experimentation within target species
  • Evidence of ability to deliver value from developed technology
