ABVP Establishes New Foundation

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) recently announced the launch of the new ABVP Foundation. The Foundation’s new President, Dr. James Kober, Diplomate, ABVP (Swine Health Management) stated, “The mission of the Foundation is to promote excellence in species-oriented veterinary medicine in clinical practice and academia. We believe our efforts through the Foundation will give future and current Diplomates the chance to be part of a larger opportunity offering premium specialty care to animals.” [Source: ABVP]

As a tax-exempt, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization (IRS status pending), the purpose of the Foundation is to supply monies for student scholarships, support resident training, advance ABVP Diplomate clinical research, promote ABVP certification and raise the public’s awareness of ABVP Diplomates. With the 2014 ABVP Symposium scheduled for October 30 through November 2 in Nashville, Tennessee the Foundation board is also elevating its fundraising efforts to build an endowment fund. Veterinarians, Diplomates, and corporate sponsors are encouraged to offer items for the annual silent and live auctions to be held during the Symposium. Past annual auctions have resulted in many intriguing and valuable items available for bid. In addition to funds from the auctions, anticipated donations from individuals, veterinarians, Diplomates and others will help build the initial endowment. Pledges from company sponsors and through estates are also encouraged.
