Position Announcement: Tenured Position in Pig Medicine and Production

The Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand, invites applications for a tenured position in Pig Medicine and Production. Our globally accredited veterinary programme is world renowned, providing quality, research-led education. The closing date for applications is June 6.

All applicants must demonstrate a strong track record in the clinical practice of pig medicine and production and/or evidence of research in the field. You will show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and team skills.

As the successful candidate for this academic role, you will be responsible for teaching pig medicine and production to veterinary, animal science and veterinary technology undergraduate students.

You will have a strong service focus, both towards external stakeholders and towards our undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will either be board-certified (or be able to be recognised as a specialist in pig medicine in NZ) or you will hold a PhD in a field related to pig medicine or production. As an expert in pig medicine or production, you will be expected to forge linkages with the pig industry in New Zealand and to establish relationships with local farmers, sufficient to enable effective teaching

Approximately 30% of your time will be dedicated to research. You will be expected to grow a research programme, preferably in an area allied to the research strengths of the Institute (monogastric nutrition; animal welfare; infectious diseases; epidemiology). As a part of your responsibilities, you will be expected to supervise postgraduate students (PhD and Masters) in your area of expertise. If you do not have a PhD, you may be able to study toward this degree with the approval of the Head of Institute.

You must possess a veterinary degree that is immediately registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (VCNZ); noting that, for veterinarians who have a degree that is not recognised by the VCNZ for general registration, limited registration would be acceptable to the University.
