Inspections Still Required to Issue a CVI

This is a reminder that the inspection of animals remains a requirement to issue a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Certifcate, CVI) prior to the interstate movement of swine. Pigs destined for interstate shipment must be inspected by an accredited veterinarian within 10 days of issuing a CVI or within 30 days of issuance if the herd of origin is visited as part of a routine herd health plan. If you or your clients are concerned about the possible introduction of PEDv or other infectious agents to a susceptible herd, the inspections can occur at an off-site location as long as all the pigs can be properly visualized and inspected. No states have waived the existing inspection requirements.
