Position Announcement: Technical Services Veterinarian

A small veterinary biologics firm in Omaha Nebraska is seeking a Technical Services Veterinarian to promote and service MVP Laboratories, Inc’s autogenous vaccine accounts. Assist with needed diagnostics, determine protocols, cultivate sales, and research and develop disease control programs for production/animals.

Job Duties

  1. Develop and maintain effective working relations, explain procedures, evaluate treatments, discuss test results and/or prescribe health programs with livestock veterinarians/MVP clients
    • Become familiar with clients and their production units
    • Promote and service autogenous vaccine accounts
    • Become familiar with MVP diagnostic capabilities and our ability to differentiate APP, Strep suis, H. parasuis, and Mycoplasma
  2. Assist in Sales, R&D, and USDA submissions on product licensing projects
    • Oversee documentation for extended use of isolates and use of isolates for autogenous vaccines as well as their use in non-adjacent herds
    • Develop, represent, and help market/promote MVP products both with current clients and at industry and professional meetings/trade shows
  3. Organize, coordinate, and/or prioritize biological laboratory activities sharing and/or assuming diagnostic responsibilities in:
    • Necropsy
    • Microbiology bench work
    • Molecular biology
    • Assist with entering diagnostic demographic, history, necropsy findings, and results in the MVP BOS report system
  4. Recommend and help develop new diagnostic tests:
    • Study growth, structure, development, and general characteristics of microorganisms to understand their relationship to current challenges to herd health status
    • Assist in developing protocols for animal testing of adjuvants and possible new commercial products
    • Conduct in vitro and in vivo research and write animal testing protocols
    • Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summarize findings
  5. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Veterinary Degree with 5 to 8 years of practice and/or industry experience required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and correspond in the English language for general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and reports.
  • Requires critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approached to problems. Complex problem solving to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions and systems analysis to determine how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Ability to apply mathematical formulas of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications as well as applying scientific rules and methods.
  • Lift 50 lbs occasionally. Must be able to move from place to place in all areas of the lab. Must be able to stand and bend during most of the shift. Requires good hand/eye coordination to perform various tests and good eyesight for calibrations and operation of lab equipment.
  • Basic lab environment that requires the wearing of protective equipment.
  • Expected to travel 3 to 5 days a month with overnight stays to meet with and interact with our clients.
