FMD Response Plan, the "Red Book" June 2012

The Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Response Plan: The Red Book (June 2012) is now available at the National Center for Animal Health Emergency Management (NCAHEM) Web site via the following link under "Related Topics" (FMD Response Plan): http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_health/emergency_management/ .

This version of the Red Book, as it is commonly called, incorporates comments received on prior versions of the FMD Response Plan from 2010 and 2011 and updates to current Foreign Animal Disease Preparedness and Response materials. The objectives of this plan are to identify (1) the capabilities needed to respond to an FMD outbreak and (2) the critical activities that will be involved in responding to that outbreak. FMD is a highly contagious viral disease that may affect domestic cloven-hoofed animals (i.e., cattle, swine, sheep, and goats) and many wild animals (i.e., deer, bison, pronghorn antelope, and feral swine). The plan promotes agricultural security, secures the food supply, guards animal health, and protects public health by providing strategic guidance on responding to an FMD outbreak.
