Prem is Proper
April 4, 2012 —
The swine industry is leading the way when it comes to registering premises as part of the national effort to enhance animal traceability in the U.S. livestock industry. To date, more than 100% of the producers recognized by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service have registered their swine premises. This effort is also supported by most pork processors either by requiring their suppliers to have a Premises Identification Number (PIN) or be PQA+ certified which requires a PIN. Veterinarians have also been instrumental in promoting premises registration and now it’s time to take this to the next step and make use of these identifiers. Are you including the PIN on all documents and diagnostic sample submissions? You should be. Remember: Prem is Proper -- Include the PIN when sending it in!
