News from AASV District 10

We would like to update you on some great news from our AMVEC (the Mexican AASV). From July 20th -23rd we celebrated our 46th Annual Meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with a total of 900 participants from Mexico, USA, Canada, Central, South America, Spain and France. This year, the Annual Meeting was named in honor of Dr. Jorge Lopez Morales, a tenure professor from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of Mexico (UNAM), in recognition to his lifelong career dedicated to educating future veterinarian generations and his research on swine behavior.

The new Board of Directors for 2011-2013 was elected and started their activities:

Martin Segura, DVM -- President

Marco Antonio Carvajal, DVM, MSc -- Vice-president

Rubén Bojorquez, DVM -- Secretary

Jesús María Yescas, DVM -- Treasurer

Laura Batista, DVM, PhD -- Chair of the Scientific Committee

The Jabalí Dorado Award (the Mexican homologous to the AASV Practitioner of the Year) was awarded to Drs. Marco Antonio Carvajal, DVM, MSc and Primo Molina Uribe, DVM.

Finally, the AMVEC’s Past President’s Commission decided to name their 47th Annual Meeting in honor of Dr. Laura Batista in recognition to her outstanding professional career, contributions to Swine Medicine, and specifically to the Mexican swine industry.
