Swine Euthanasia Research Workshop/Webinar
January 14, 2011 — Sherrie Niekamp
The National Pork Board is conducting a Swine Euthanasia Research Review Workshop and Webinar on February 1, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Des Moines, IA at the Embassy Suites hotel. This meeting will highlight the results of a large 2009 Checkoff-funded initiative to improve existing methods and identify novel methods for humane euthanasia of swine.
Six researchers from the United States and abroad will provide an overview of their research results and participate in a discussion with the audience. Sherrie Niekamp, Checkoff's director of animal welfare, says, "This session is designed to showcase how Checkoff research is working to find innovative solutions to this important industry issue. We hope to have good attendance and discussion."
The workshop is open free of charge to all producers and swine veterinarians. Interested participants are asked to register in advance. A registration form is available online at http://www.pork.org/filelibrary/News/euthanasia%20registration%20form.pdf. This meeting precedes Checkoff's annual unified research meeting.
