Podcast Focuses on PRRS Control and Elimination

For many years, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome has been considered the most economically threatening disease to hog operations. Past estimates suggest that the disease costs the U.S. pork industry $600 million, while those estimates are being recalculated to reflect today's costs, it's safe to say that PRRS costs are not headed lower.

Producers, researchers and veterinarians are placing more attention on developing real-world solutions to eliminate PRRS. Producer-driven efforts are starting with area control and elimination programs, with multiple pilot projects already underway.

The November Hub AudioFeed, sponsored by Hubbard Feeds, features Rodney "Butch" Baker, DVM, from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He will address PRRS-related issues, as well as the timing and impact of the virus as it moves throughout an area. Baker also will discuss how producers and veterinarians can work together to better understand the PRRS virus and try to contain the infection.
