USU Trustees Approve Veterinary Medicine Degree

The Utah State University Board of Trustees unanimously approved a proposal to offer a doctor of veterinary medicine degree.

The degree would be offered in partnership with Washington State University. The two schools still need to work out partnership details, and Utah's Board of Regents is required to sign off on the new degree.

"The president (Stan Albrecht) was very supportive of it," said USU spokesman John DeVilbiss. "He said it's one of the most exciting degree programs that's come to the university."

It's been previously reported that such a partnership would be patterned after similar joint ventures already in place among a variety of higher-education institutions, including a partnership involving the University of Nebraska and Iowa State Universtiy.

Preliminary plans call for the first two years of the program to be completed in Logan, while the remainder of the program's requirements would be fulfilled in Pullman, Wa.
