AVMF/Pfizer Scholarship to Aid Food Animal Vet Students

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) and Pfizer Animal Health have teamed up to establish a program to award up to $2 million in scholarships to veterinary students through 2012.

The Pfizer Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship Program, to be administered by the AVMF, will award $2500 scholarships to more than 225 eligible veterinary students annually. This scholarship is open to all students in their 2nd or 3rd year of attendance at an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine in the United States. However, to encourage interest in food animal medicine and practice in under-served rural areas, at least 40% of the scholarships will target students likely to enter food animal or rural practice.

The program also strives to promote diversity within the veterinary profession by setting aside 30% of the scholarships for students from diverse backgrounds according to age, gender, physical disability and ethnicity, among other characteristics.

Additional information and applications for the spring 2010 scholarships, available at www.avmf.org, are due by November 13, 2009.
