PRRS Risk Assessment Training offered at AASV Annual Meeting

What does the PRRS Risk Assessment do? As with anything we try to manage, we must first be able to measure it. The AASV PRRS Risk Assessment is an epidemiological tool developed specifically to measure the risk that a clinical episode of PRRS will occur. In 2007, the web-based PRRS Risk Assessment known as PADRAP (Production Animal Disease Risk Assessment Program) was launched. PADRAP has improved access, ease of use, and the ability to view benchmarking reports immediately after submitting an assessment.

Three ways veterinarians have applied the PRRS Risk Assessment:

1. Evaluate current biosecurity protocols and/or to develop new biosecurity protocols to avoid risk;
2. Communicate risks and the importance of biosecurity procedures to clients or production personnel;
3. Aid in the decision to initiate a project to eliminate PRRSv from a breeding herd site and identify modifiable risk factors in an effort to increase the likelihood that an elimination project will be successful long-term.

The training session is open to veterinarians who have been previously trained on the spreadsheet version and those who have not previously used the web-based program (PADRAP). The training is free for all AASV members (including associate members). It will be held in Dallas, Texas during the AASV Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 12:30 - 5:30 pm.
