Michigan Retains PRV Stage V Status
November 25, 2008 —
The US Department of Agriculture has renewed Stage V Pseudorabies Eradication Program status to Michigan following their annual renewal request. This follows the recent PRV outbreak in transitional swine in the state.
In a letter to Dr. Steven Halstead, Michigan state veterinarian, USDA commended the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the state's swine industry for its response and successful control of the disease outbreak. Control procedures enacted by federal, state and industry stakeholders prevented transmission of the virus into the state's commercial swine operations.
The state's Stage V status will be effective until June 30, 2009.
