Denagard? Liquid Concentrate Weight Restrictions Lifted
August 26, 2008 —
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted the weight restrictions for Denagard® (tiamulin) Liquid Concentrate.
According to a press release from Novartis Animal Health, the product may now be used to treat swine pneumonia caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and swine dysentery in pigs weighing more than 250 pounds.
This follows an announcement in June regarding the lifting of weight restrictions on Denagard® Medicated Premix allowing its use to treat enteric disease in pigs exceeding 250 pounds (Novartis Announces Removal of Denagard® Weight Restriction, AASV e-Letter - June 16, 2008).
As always, be sure to follow label directions and required withdrawal times. For withdrawal times for product exported to the Japanese market, refer to the MRL Database on the National Pork Board website.
