PRRS CAP Request for Research, Extension and Education Applications

The $4.8 million USDA supported PRRS Coordinated Agricultural Project (CAP) is announcing funding opportunities to support Research, Extension and Education activities directed at porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS).

The PRRS CAP program invites applications addressing integrated strategies to control and reduce the impact of PRRS, the most important viral disease of swine. The PRRS CAP long-term goal is to develop tools and deliverable knowledge that will reduce both animal suffering and economic losses to producers and society through the control and/or elimination of the PRRS virus.

Funding supports three principal activities; Research, Extension and Education. Research activities are directed at improving existing technologies or developing new tools and knowledge for the prevention, control and elimination of PRRS. Areas of research to be funded include vaccines, immunity, epidemiology, diagnostics and host genetics. Extension projects focus on the control and elimination of PRRSV on farms. The education component supports the training of students who participate in PRRS research. Multidisciplinary projects that cut across several research areas and include extension and educational activities are desirable.
