AASV Foundation Auction

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Now that you're back at work you must be thinking "what can I do for my fellow swine veterinarians?" Well, the obvious answer is to start saving your cash so you can bid big at the 2008 AASV Foundation Auction to be held during the AASV annual meeting in San Diego.

The deadline for donations has officially passed although I'm sure if you got something for Christmas that you just can't stand and you're too scared of your spouse to return it we might be able to add to the auction list for a couple more days. And, we have added some great items since I last talked to you.

To honor the memory of Dr. Bernie Curran, his wife Mary Ann is handcrafting and donating a very special quilt. This one-of-a-kind memorial will be a treasure to anyone who knew Bernie.

In addition, Dr. Joaquin Becerril is donating a handcrafted copper plaque featuring the AASV logo. Dr. Becerril commissioned Mexican craftsmen to design and produce the piece that could proudly adorn any veterinary office.

Did the after Christmas shopping spree push you over the edge? Were you stuck in an airport crowded with thousands of other "joyous" travelers over the holiday? Do you just need some time alone? Well, then how about spending it in a Stump 1-man Hunting Stand? It could be yours thanks to the folks at the Fairmont Veterinary Clinic. The Stump 1-Man is a shooter stand with 360 degrees of view. The windows swing for quiet easy opening. It is made of UV stabilized carbon polyethylene to withstand harsh temperatures. The design will also help keep your human scent contained inside - yes, hunters tell me that's a good thing. Maybe we should start building hog barns out of this stuff.

Finally, if spending time locked in a tube with your own scent doesn't appeal to you, maybe you would prefer the wide open spaces. Thanks to Wyoming Wilderness Outfitters, you and 3 friends could join Dr. Tony Scheiber and spend 4 days packing and fishing in Yellowstone country. Traverse the vast wilderness trails on highly trained, mountain wise and "America's Finest" mules. Stay in teepees with canvas floors near a mountain stream overlooking an open meadow.

Be sure to view the entire list of auction items online and watch for the official auction booklet coming soon to a mailbox near you. Also, if you get a chance be sure to thank our friends that have donated all these wonderful items. The best thanks, however, would be to make sure you bid BIG in San Diego!
