AASV Foundation Auction Goes Artsy

This week we are highlighting some auction items with a decidedly personal touch. There are some incredibly talented people in our midst and the most recent donations to the AASV Foundation auction are perfect examples. If you're the lucky bidder, you'll be able to hang original artwork from your walls or your ears.

AASV member Dr. Sandy Amass has gone back to her wood shop and came out with the world's cutest wooden pig wall hanging which she donated to the Foundation auction. Handcrafted out of cedar, this intarsia "pig in a blanket" wall hanging is just what you need to complete the decor of your clinic office or your child's bedroom. Intarsia is the intricate process of cutting, shaping, and sanding individual pieces of wood that have been selected for their natural color and grain pattern. The individual pieces are then fitted together, jigsaw puzzle-style, to create the finished picture. This whimsical wall hanging represents many hours of effort - a true work of love!

How about a little musical gift for someone special? And, when I say "little" I mean little. Karen Scates has graciously donated two pairs of hand-carved wooden miniature earrings for the auction. As a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsman, she has been creating wood miniatures for over twenty years, specializing in 1/12 scale miniatures of musical instruments. Her exquisite work is featured in galleries and shops throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. She also happens to be the bookkeeper for AASV member Dr. Rick Tubbs.

Remember, the Foundation needs your support. Please consider donating an item for the auction to help your Foundation meet its BHAG of raising $50,000 at the 2008 auction. Items and contributions need to be submitted by December 1, 2007. To donate, please visit the Foundation's auction website.
