ASF Outbreak Diagnosed in Mauritius

Mauritian veterinary authorities have confirmed the country's first ever outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).
Authorities initially suspected Classical swine fever (CSF) and submitted samples to the OIE reference laboratory in Onderstepoort where the causative agent was identified as ASF. There are reportedly approximately 17,000 pigs on the island. 549 have died since the outbreak began and another 49 have been destroyed.
