Federal Court Ruling to Close Horse Slaughter Plant
September 24, 2007 —
A federal appeals court in Chicago has upheld an Illinois law that bans the slaughter of horses for human consumption.
Cavel International, the last remaining horse slaughter facility in the U.S. located in Dekalb, IL, will be forced to close following this ruling unless an appeal is filed. The plant, which processes about 1,000 horses weekly, had remained open pending the court of appeals ruling.
