Position Announcement: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, Swine Section

The Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine at Iowa State University seeks applicants with experience and expertise in swine production medicine to join the growing Swine Section in Food Supply Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate will join a department that has responsibilities for professional and graduate teaching, diagnostic service, research, field investigations, and outreach to veterinarians and swine producers. The successful candidate will focus 50% of their efforts to develop an internationally recognized research program that supports the evidence based practice of swine medicine worldwide. Instructional activities and professional practice comprise the remainder of the position responsibilities and include involvement in a team approach to professional and graduate courses taught in didactic and clinical settings and evidence-based outreach and decision support activities for food animal veterinarians.

The Swine Section is a synergistic team of energetic faculty that has developed a Strategic Plan for focus and progress. The successful incumbent will contribute to and promote the continued development of this atmosphere and activity. Board certification in an appropriate discipline and development of a research program supported by external funding are expected prior to the granting of tenure. The Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine consists of faculty from disciplines including pathology, microbiology, epidemiology, statistics, toxicology, and theriogenology. Other collaborative opportunities in Ames include the Department of Animal Science, Iowa Pork Industry Center, National Animal Disease Center, National Veterinary Services Laboratory, Center for Veterinary Biologics, and multiple specialties throughout the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The following are required qualifications:

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: DVM or equivalent degree, two or more years swine clinical practice, demonstrated expertise in swine production medicine, and a masters degree in an appropriate discipline.

ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR: In addition to the qualifications listed above, a record of scholarship in swine production medicine is required.

The following are preferred qualifications:

PhD degree in an appropriate discipline and/or board certification in a discipline related to swine health and production medicine.

Appointment Conditions: Tenure Track, 12 months, full time

Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
