Kansas Bans Feral Swine Hunts

Feral swine hunts for profit are now illegal in Kansas resulting in fines of $5000 per day for organizing a hunt and $5,000 per pig that is deliberately released into the wild.

No lawsuits have been filed since the law went into effect on July 1 of 2006. The law made it illegal in Kansas to organize a feral hunt for profit, hogs can't be released into the wild and wild hogs can't be imported into Kansas according to David Leffingwell, attorney for the Kansas Animal Health Department.

Much of the feral pig population in Kansas came from Texas. People wanting to make a profit from hunts would capture Texas feral pigs then bring them to Kansas and release them. Russian and European boars are being released into the wild to mate and produce a more interesting hunting animal.
