FSIS Administrator to Retire

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Administrator Dr. Barbara Masters announced her retirement from the agency effective January 19, 2007.

Dr. Masters leaves the agency to become the Senior Policy Analyst at the Washington, DC law firm of Olsson, Frank and Weeda. Dr. Masters was named administrator in August, 2005 after serving as acting administrator since March 2004. During her tenure as FSIS administrator, Dr. Masters emphasized communication and outreach. She held monthly meetings involving both industry stakeholders and FSIS personnel to discuss inspection efforts and stakeholder challenges.

Agriculture Under Secretary for Food Safety Dr. Richard Raymond announced the selection of David P. Goldman, MD, MPH to serve as acting FSIS Administrator until a permanent administrator is announced.
