FMD Outbreak in Israel

The Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is reporting a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Hazafon.
The outbreak which began on December 28, 2006 was confirmed by the National FMD Laboratory at the Kimron Veterinary Institute on January 1. FMD virus O has been identified as the causal agent affecting 520 goats resulting in 260 confirmed cases and 90 deaths. FMD was last reported in Israel in December 2005. The source of the current outbreak is unknown.
